At Least 16 Killed in Nepal Landslides

(MENAFN- QNA) At least 16 people were killed as overnight rainfall triggered landslides in central Nepal, police said Thursday.

More than a dozen houses were buried in the landslides, which occurred at two different locations in Kaski district, Dutch press agency (dpa) reported.

"Eleven people were killed in Lumley and the remaining ones in Bhadaure," said police officer Kedar Rajaure.

Search efforts were ongoing, and police said they feared more people were buried under the debris.

"Twenty-eight people are missing in Lumley. Five people were rescued," Rajaure said.

Army helicopters were deployed for rescue work. Landslides blocked roads in the region, hampering rescue efforts.
