Coalition jets strike Sanaa homes of Yemen's Saleh
(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Warplanes from a Saudi Arabia-led coalition against Yemen's Shia Houthi militant group on Wednesday struck the homes of ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh in the southern part of capital Sanaa, eyewitnesses have said.
They said the targeted homes were located in southern Sanaa's Sanhan district, Saleh's birthplace.
Coalition warplanes also targeted the home of Mohamed Saleh al-Ahmar, a stepbrother of Saleh who lives in the same district, one eyewitness said.
He added that the residences of several of the ex-president's other relatives were similarly targeted.
It was not immediately clear whether the strikes caused any human casualties.
Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.
On March 25, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies began an extensive air campaign targeting Houthi positions across Yemen.
Riyadh says its air campaign comes in response to appeals by embattled Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi for military intervention against the powerful Houthis.
Hadi fled to Riyadh in March after Houthi forces attacked his residence in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, from which he had hoped to reinstate his beleaguered presidency.
A five-day humanitarian cease-fire proposed by Saudi Arabia ended on Sunday amid calls by the United Nations for an extension.
Saudi Arabia, for its part, claims that the Houthis failed to abide by the terms of the five-day truce.
