US and coalition forces conduct 17 airstrikes on ISIL


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US and coalition military forces conducted 17 airstrikes on the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant yesterday and today for the purpose of weakening them, said US Central Command (CENTCOM) Sunday.

In Syria, five strikes near Koabni destroyed seven ISIL vehicles and a building, while in Iraq six airstrikes west of the Mosul Dam struck two small ISIL units, damaged a building and destroyed four other vehicles and an artillery piece.

Another three strikes aimed southwest of the Mosul Dam area struck a large unit, a small unit, and destroyed two vehicles and two buildings that were under ISIL's control.

Three airstrikes southeast of Fallujah hit two large ISIL units, a small unit and destroyed one building.

All aircraft departed the strike areas safely and assessments are based on initial reports.

The statement reminded that the destruction of ISIL targets in Iraq and Syria further limit the groups ability to project power and conduct operations and among the coalition nations conducting those strikes in Iraq are the US, France, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands.

While strikes in Syria included the US, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Bahrain.
