Vodafone Qatar's Q1 revenue up by 27pc


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Vodafone Qatar delivered strong numbers in the first quarter ended June 30, 2014, as its revenue reached QR585m, reflecting a 27 percent year-on-year growth.

The distributable profit was QR73m for the quarter and the company has reduced its net loss to QR 27m; an improvement of 68 percent over the same quarter last year.

Total number of mobile customers grew to 1.354 million, up 18 percent compared to a year ago. Mobile average revenue per user (ARPU) increased year on year by QR8 to QR131.

Quarterly earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached QR159m, a 61 percent year-on-year increase. The the loss per share is minus (QR0.03) compared with minus (QR0.1) for the same quarter last year.

Commenting on the June financial results, Vodafone Qatar Chairman, Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Adbullah Al Thani (pictured) said: "Revenue for the quarter grew by 27 percent year-on-year, driven by a combination of continued customer growth and strong ARPU performance which resulted in a healthy growth in EBITDA."

"This quarter also saw a significant milestone for the Company with the launch of Vodafone 4G, Qatar newest 4G network that comes with the newest content proposition and bestin-store experience. Over the next few months, we will be expanding our 4G network to cover more of Doha focusing on indoor coverage as well as outside Doha especially the camping areas."
