(MENAFN- Arab News) Riyadh Police Department arrested 2,400 expatriates involved in illegal activities in the Kingdom, in a major crackdown targeting two areas in the capital



According to a police official, those arrested included illegal expatriates and other individuals involved in drug trafficking, liquor brewing, forging government documents and preparing foods in hygienic conditions for sale



The majority of the suspects were Yemenis, Ethiopians and Pakistanis residing in the Salehiya and Al-Oud districts, located close to the city center of Batha.



The police officer said that the Yemenis who were arrested confessed that they had entered the Kingdom illegally. He added that they did not have any documents to support their residency in the Kingdom.



The operations were carried out for a period of three days based on the instructions of Riyadh Governor Prince Khalid bin Bandar and his deputy Prince Turki bin Abdullah, deputy governor of Riyadh.



Maj. Gen. Saud Bin Abdulaziz Al-Hilal, chief of the Riyadh Police Department, supervised the operations assisted by his assistant director Maj. Gen. Suleiman Al-Sudais and Col. Eid Al-Otaibi



The Saudi Red Crescent ambulances were present during the raids to provide assistance in case of emergency cases.



Following the raid, the police warned the public to obey local regulations and urged citizens and residents to notify officials in case of illegal activities taking place in the area
