Iraqi PM discusses with leaders of political blocs on demonstrations


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, July 17 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi discussed with leaders and representatives of political blocs in Iraq on Tuesday about the general situation in the country and demonstrations.
Abadi's office said in a statement that the leaders of political blocs unanimously agreed to the rights of peaceful demonstration and expression of opinion, to understand the legitimate demands of citizens and work to meet them.
Leaders condemn vandalism of public and private property and attacks on Iraqi security forces, who said they had freed the land of terrorism and was still pursuing its survivors, the statement said.
The leaders support the Iraqi security forces in their mission to maintain security and order in the country and the need to take fundamental approvals on any demonstration to determine the time and place and pledge the validity of the demonstration.
Leaders will provide urgent solutions to beating corruption to ensure better performance of state institutions and to meet the needs of citizens.
A number of Iraqi cities have been witnessing demonstrations for more than eight days to demand the provision of services, job opportunities and fight against financial and administrative corruption in government departments. (end) ahh.lr
