ICRC praises Kuwait's relief efforts in Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, July 16 (KUNA) -- President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer on Monday praised Kuwait's support for the Committee's programs in Yemen.
This came in a statement made by Maurer to KUNA after meeting with Kuwait's Permanent Representative to UN and International Organizations headquarters in Geneva Jamal Al-Ghunaim to discuss the Committee's programs in Yemen.
Yemen is one of the exceptional cases that the ICRC is dealing with now because of the war and violence and its reflection on the deteriorating health situation, Maurer said.
The State of Kuwait always gives best example in dealing with humanitarian crises through its support for ICRC's programs, especially in Yemen, he added, stressing that this support enables the Committee to provide safe drinking water and sanitation services to displaced people.
He stressed that the Committee is keen on neutrality and credibility in all programs, especially those in areas of conflict and tension.
On his part, Ambassador Al-Ghunaim said in similar statement to KUNA that his meeting with ICRC chief tackled the mechanisms of distributing Kuwaiti relief supplies in Yemen.
Al-Ghunaim added that Maurer would visit Kuwait soon for further consultations on the Kuwaiti support for the committee's program in conflict zones.
The Kuwaiti ambassador underlined ICRS's role in Yemen and its neutrality in the distribution of its services to the needy Yemenis. (end) ta.haq
