Gunmen set on fire high school in Logar


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen have set on fire a high school in Pul-i-Alam, the capital of central Logar province, an official said on Thursday.

Education Department Spokesman Shapur Arab told Pajhwok Afghan News unidentified gunmen set fired the Joyak High School of boys and girls on Wednesday night. The school is situated two kilometers from the Governor House.

He said three classrooms, an administrative office, a stock room, hundreds of text books, stationary, some library equipment, doors, windows, tables and chairs had been turned to ashes in the fire

Arab added 560 boys study during the morning shift and around 520 girls study in the afternoon shift in the school.

Sayed Alam, a tribal elder, confirmed to Pajhwok of the arson of high Joyak High School in the area and said hundreds of students had been deprived from education.

He said: €œThose burning the schools and other educational facalities were the enemies of the people and religion.€

He deplored dozens copies of the holy Quran had been burnt in the overnight fire.
