The death toll had reached 16 as of this morning with one person reported missing.
The Disaster Management Centre said that the bad weather which has affected the country since 20th May has affected more than 130,000 people in 20 District as of today.
Flooding and subsequent potential landslides threat has forced the evacuation of people in low-lying areas in parts of the country.
Five districts (Kegalle, Kalutara, Galle, Ratnapura and Nuwara Eliya) are on "red alert" for possible landslides.
Approximately, 13,199 families have been evacuated to 231 welfare centres due to flood and landslide risks in 10 Districts.
Meanwhile, the Army said that troops from the 16 Gajaba Regiment (GR) of the 143 Brigade of the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) rescued 123 people from 36 families who were stranded after opening of all spill gates of the Thabbowa reservoir in Puttalam.
The families were relocated to the Thabbowa temple premises. (Colombo Gazette)
