Two employment agencies in Singapore were charged on Thursday for deploying two underage Myanmar girls, both of whom were 10 years lower than the minimum age to work legally as a foreign maid.

Officials charged Casa Employment Specialist and Vista Employment Services' sole proprietor Khor Siew Tiang on May 24 for failing to ensure that foreign domestic workers brought into the country met the minimum age requirement of 23, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Manpower, Lianhe Zaobao (Singapore) reported.

Casa and Khor committed the alleged offenses in June and July 2017 after the two girls told officers their real ages during an interview at the Ministry's Services Centre.

The revelation caused their maid applications to be revoked, and the two agencies were ordered to send the underage girls back to Myanmar. The Myanmar Embassy was also informed about the matter.

The minimum age to work as a foreign maid in Singapore is 23, and all applicants should have received a minimum of eight years of formal education (with a recognized certificate to verify that).

The two employment agencies were expected to have their licenses suspended and revoked if convicted of the offense.
