India- Comments sought on draft regulation on drinking water offered or sold through water vending machines

(MENAFN- KNN India) Comments sought on draft regulation on drinking water offered or sold through water vending machines

New Delhi, May 22 (KNN) Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has invited comments and suggestions from stakeholders on the proposed draft regulation related to drinking water offered or sold through water vending machines.

In the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations-2011, the standards of packaged drinking water are specified. However these standards do not cover drinking water which is offered /sold through vending machines.

Thus in order to ensure safety and quality of water obtained from water vending machines and consumed by the public, it has become necessary to regulate these operations, said FSSAI in a notification.

In this regard, FSSAI has proposed an amendment to the existing standards of packaged drinking water.

In the said proposal, such drinking water shall have to comply with the parameters specified for packaged drinking water. However, such Drinking water is proposed to exempt from the requirement of Certification Mark of BIS.

The FSSAI has invited comments from stakeholder on or before June 21, 2018 on the proposed this draft Regulation.
