UNRWA calls for saving humanitarian, medical status in Gaza


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GAZA, May 22 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) called on the International community Tuesday to save the humanitarian and medical situation in Gaza Strip.
It also called for giving necessary medical assistance for those injured from (Great March of Return).
The world doesn't actually know what happened in Gaza Strip since the start of the (Great March of Return) on March 30 ,2018, said UNRWA's Commissioner Pierre Krahenpuhl at a press conference in Gaza.
He pointed out that direct statistics show that huge numbers of injuries lead to the collapse of the medical system in Gaza, in addition to the continuing shortage in Medical supplies.
On Monday, He expressed his shock at the deteriorated conditions in hospitals and medical centers of Gaza.
Numbers of injuries of the (Great March of Return) exceeded injuries of the last war on Gaza Strip back in 2014. Injuries were the result of the usage of live ammunition by occupation forces to cause significant damage to the internal organs, muscles and bones.
He assured that he is not shocked by the number of injured but because of the way these live ammunition were used in an organized way.
Around 117 people were killed by occupation forces, including 13 children and injuries of more than 13,000 people, 3,500 of whom suffered live ammunition wounds, he said.(end).
