Qatar attends World Health Assembly

DOHA: Qatar is participating in the 71st session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, which will continue until May 26, with the main theme of comprehensive health coverage.

Qatari delegation also participated the meetings of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health held from May 20 to 21 in Geneva and in the meeting of Health Ministers of Francophone countries held in Geneva on Sunday.

The delegation of Qatar was led by Minister of Public Health, H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari.

The meetings of the World Health Assembly, the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization, are discussing a number of important issues, notably: Draft of 13th General Program of Work 2019-2022, addressing the global shortage of medicines and vaccines and their availability, and the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework and sharing information about influenza viruses and vaccines and other necessary things, and GlobalPolio EradicationInitiative and the Global Vaccine Action Plan(GVAP).

The meetings are also discussing health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan, cooperation within the United Nations system and with other intergovernmental organisations and the improving the health of refugees and migrants.

The meetings will also discuss preparations for the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases scheduled to be held in 2018 and the preparation for the high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on putting an end the tuberculosis.

The meetings of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health also discussed a number of important topics, notably: the Arab Council for Health Specialties and the unified word of the Council of Arab Ministers. The Palestinian Health Minister also presented a detailed report on the health conditions of the Palestinians in order to provide support and assistance to the Palestinian people and to agree on a specific vision on the Palestinian people.

The draft resolution was presented during the 71st session of the World Health Assembly.

The meeting also discussed the recommendations of the meeting of Arab and regional health authorities' representatives on the reality of the Arab pharmaceutical industries, as well as the health legislation represented in the guide to combating smoking and tobacco uses, and the work on issuing a guiding law to protect the rights of psychiatric patients and people who have quit and who want to quit drugs in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, united nations office on drugs and crime (UNODC), the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior and the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health.

The meetings also discussed to set up Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health, the report of the fifth meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health and the Arab Authority for Blood Transfusion Services. The meetings were attended by the accompanying delegation.
