Oman- SEZAD, OFIC sign deal to develop fisheries hub in Duqm


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oman Food Investment Holding Co (OFIC) to develop a fisheries hub in the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZD), including processing, laboratories, logistics and other support facilities.

The MoU was signed by H E Yahya bin Said al Jabri, chairman of SEZAD, and H E Dr Fuad bin Ja'afar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The MoU aims at enhancing cooperation between the two parties in the development of a new fisheries hub in SEZD leading to sustainable fishing, production processes and planning, season extension, packaging, trade promotion, certification and food safety excellence.

The agreement provides for the development of the fishery harbor facilities and adjacent landing areas for fish together with support services to processing facilities; ensuring integrated supply chain for raw material processing and export of final product; interaction with local fishing communities in Duqm and surrounding areas for sourcing fish through sustainable and responsible management.

Oman Food Investment Holding Co is the investment arm of the government of Oman in the field of food security.
