(MENAFN- KNN India) MSMEs in Ernakulum District reflect positive trend in drawing investments
New Delhi, Apr 19 (KNN) MSMEs in Ernakulam district drew fresh investments amounting to Rs 138 crore in the last financial year.
As much as Rs 10.45 crore has been disbursed by the Department of Industries and Commerce to 130 applicants for various enterprises through Ernakulam District Industries Centre.
According to DIC, more than 6 crore of investment was made by 84 new entrepreneurs under the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana.
Also, the district had observed the investments of Rs 200 crore during 2016-17 in 2,267 MSMEs which in turn generated employment for 8981 people in the district.
A total of 1,857 new enterprises in micro and small segment were registered in 2017-18, which generated 6,190 jobs.
Also during the same period, 4000 enterprises got registered through Udyog Aadhaar.
According to a survey conducted by the Industries Department, 16,767 micro manufacturing units, 6075 micro services units, 2,296 small manufacturing and 855 small service units, 44 medium manufacturing units and 38 medium-sized service units were there in the district at the end of March 2017.
Currently, the district has six industrial development areas, 17 mini industrial areas and a total of 33 industrial areas developed by agencies such as district, block and grama panchayats.
According to the reports, 3 lakh MSMEs were there in the state employing 14 lakh people with an estimated investment of Rs 19,751 crore.
Ernakulam district an industrial capital of the State, has 44,646 registered and unregistered MSMEs and the total investment involved is to the tune of Rs. 9,650 crore, employing 3,75,530 people.
About 4668 MSMEs units deals in agro and food processing while other major industrial enterprises in the district are involved in packaged drinking water, ready-made garments, woolen and silk clothing's and thread-based units, wood and wood-based industries, rubber and rubber-based units as well as paper and paper products.
