Maid in Jeddah rescued after being locked in stockroom

(MENAFN- Asia Times) A Filipino domestic worker was rescued by Philippine officials in Saudi Arabia after she was locked in a stockroom for several days and forced to eat spoiled rice and noodles.

In a video posted on Facebook, Edrelyn Cauntoy, 27, who is from Bago City in Negros Occidental in the Philippines, pleaded for help as her employer locked her in a stockroom and forced her to eat spoiled food, The Filipino Times reported.

According to the post, Cauntoy was locked in the stockroom from March 13 because her identity card had expired.

A friend posted a video on Facebook on March 16, saying that she needs help and wants to return home. She said in the video the food given by her employer smelled bad.

Cauntoy's mother Anita, who saw the video and learned of her situation, immediately sought help from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Bacolod, which found the victim shortly after.

An OWWA official said Cauntoy had already been rescued by her employment agency and the Philippine Embassy was helping to get her sent home.
