Dubai reunites Pakistani driver with parents after 6 years

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) For Mother's Day, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) reunited a driver with his parents after six years of separation.

The Pakistani driver has working with a government entity in Dubai for six years, while his family resides in Pakistan.

His emotional encounter with his parents was during their four-hour transit in Dubai International Airport on their return to Pakistan, Karachi from Saudi Arabia, Jeddah. The couple was in Makkah to perform Umrah, and the driver's employer company contacted GDRFA, hoping to help him reunite with his parents in these few hours.

GDRFA officers responded in a short time span, setting a meeting appointment with the parents in terminal 3 at 11:55pm, coinciding with International Happiness Day and the eve of Mother's Day.

In a tear-jerking scene, the family met at the passport control section in Dubai International Airport under the supervision of Lt. Col. Ibrahim Hamad, director of passport control department. Officers said people in the hall teared up on watching the family reunion and the parent's emotional embrace to their elder son who left six years ago to ensure a better living in Dubai.

On the occasion, Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, said ever since 2017 was declared as the Year of Giving, there has been an integrated national strategy to achieve happiness through giving.

"Since giving is the key of happiness, we wanted to add happiness to the hearts of this family. And we know by taking part of it, happiness will also fill us. We follow what our leaders taught us: Serving people is the true meaning of happiness," said Al Marri.
