France detains former president Sarkozy for campaign financing


(MENAFN) Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has reportedly been arrested for links with a campaign financing case.

Police is currently interrogating the former president in regards to an inquiry that looks into campaign financing, a Reuters court source reported.

Le Monde newspaper also reported investigations to be looking into accusations of Libyan financing for the former president Sarkozy's 2007 campaign.

Nicolas Sarkozy has been elected in 2007 as the president of France, as he stayed in power until 2012.
