US consumer sentiment records second highest record

(MENAFN) Consumer sentiment in the United States was found to have scored its second highest level since 2004 in February as a result of strong labor market and tax reforms.

According to the University of Michigan's survey, a 99.7 increase has been recorded in consumer sentiment's index in February from 95.7 in January.

The survey's chief economist Richard Curtin stated "the highest proportion of households since 1998 reported that their finances had improved compared with a year ago and anticipated continued gains during the year ahead."

He continued "economic news heard by consumers continued to be dominated by the tax reform legislation and net job gains, which was untarnished by the consensus view that interest rates would increase and stock prices would remain volatile."
