Turkey begins construction of third submarine

Turkey plans to begin construction of its third submarine – Murat Reis, Turkish media reported on Feb. 23 referring to sources in military.
According to the information, the construction work will begin on Feb. 25.
Construction of three more submarines – Aydin Reis, Seydiali Reis and Selman Reis – will begin after Murat Reis is built.
A total of 12 submarines are to be built as part of the MILGEM project.
Piri Reis and Hizir Reis submarines are currently being constructed. Their construction is expected to be finished in 2021.
In 2007, Turkey announced the MILGEM project, which mainly envisages production of military ships.
