Trump tells Turkey to avoid conflict with US forces in Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- President Donald Trump spoke Wednesday with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and urged Ankara to "exercise caution and to avoid any actions that might risk conflict" with US forces deployed in Syria.

"He urged Turkey to deescalate, limit its military actions, and avoid civilian casualties and increases to displaced persons and refugees," revealed a White House statement.

"Both nations must focus all parties on the shared goal of achieving the lasting defeat of (the so-called Islamic State)," Trump reiterated.

Trump invited closer bilateral cooperation with Turkey to address its security concerns and the need to stabilize a unified Syria so it poses no threat to the country.

The leaders agreed to improve their partnership particularly in regional stability and combating groups such as IS, the Kurdish PKK and Al-Qaeda. (end) ak.sd
