Kuwait- Oman win 1st gold medal at His Highness the Amir shooting tourney


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Oman's shooting team on Sunday snatched the first gold medal at His Highness the Amir's 7th International Shooting Grand Prix, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Oman's victory came when Rami Al Boloushi ranked first in the 10m air rifle contest, registering 241 points, while his Saudi rival Mesfer Al-Omari came second with 240 points. Bahrain's shooter Ali Hajji won the third position with 219 points in the same contest.

In a statement to reporters following the victory, Al-Boloushi said winning the first position came after competing in a difficult game, which witnessed an excellent performance.

World's best shooters are taking part in the event, he added, noting that obtaining the gold medal is a culmination of Oman's shooting.

He pointed out that he was eyeing the gold medal during the games, expressing his hope that his team would get further medals in the next events.

He affirmed that his triumph today is an impetus to win more titles in the next international competitions, especially as Oman's shooting has become on the right track, thanks to great and big support by Omani officials. Three competitions will be held on Monday (tomorrow).

On Saturday, Kuwait Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Youth Khaled Al-Roudhan opened the grand prix, in which shooters from 39 countries are competing. It will run until next Thursday.

The minister said he was honored to represent His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in the opening of the event. The grand prix is held at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Range. (end) fs.hm
