Pakistan no longer an ally of US: Asif

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said Pakistan is no longer an ally of the US after stopping of security aid.

In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Khawaja Asif said joining the US-led alliance in 2001 by Pakistan was a major mistake after which lawlessness and violence increased in Pakistan. He said Pakistan has made great efforts for eliminating militancy from its soil. He said the war will be fought on Pakistani soil again if Pakistan again wages war against Afghan Taliban. He said America will benefit from such a scenario.

He said non-cooperation from the US and Afghanistan in return of Afghan refugees and fencing of Pak-Afghan border raises speculations about their intent in fight against terrorism.

The minister said he doesn't consider the US ally of Pakistan after suspension of security aid. He said allies don't take such actions against each other. He said Pakistan has a lot of options as far as alliance with other countries is concerned.
