As part of a series of road openings implemented in conjunction with National Day celebrations and before the end of year 2017, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal' opened on December 17 a loop leading from Khalifa Street to Onaiza Street (also known as Istiqlal Street).

Eng. Mohamed Arqoub Al Khaldi, Head of Section for Doha Projects in Ashghal, said that the new bridge, which is located near the Imam Muhammed bin Abdulwahab Mosque, will facilitate access from the TV Intersection and Khalifa Street to Qatar Sports Club Intersection through Onaiza Street.

It will also facilitate access for those coming from Onaiza Street towards Al Corniche and West Bay Area through Khalifa Street. This will enhance traffic flow and reduce travel times on these intersections, especially at peak times.

Eng. Mohamed Arqoub Al Khaldi added: The Public Works Authority has opened the loop leading from Onaiza Street to Khalifa Street last September, and with the completion of the new loop, traffic movement on this intersection is now open in both directions.

Works also include installing street lighting and providing a storm water drainage network. Currently, landscaping works are being implemented and are expected to be completed in Q1, 2018. The opening of this loop is part of a project to develop Khalifa Street and convert TV Roundabout into a signal controlled intersection.
