2018 season of IPL might have DRS
17 Dec 2017

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been sceptical about the use of Decision Review System in the past but now it looks like they are coming to terms with it.

As per reports, the BCCI is mulling the option of introducing DRS in the next edition of the Indian Premier League.

Here is all about it!

Umpires take part in DRS workshop
Creating awareness

As per reports, the apex cricket body organised a DRS workshop headed by Denis Burns and Paul Reiffel in Vizag, for top 10 Indian umpires outside the ICC panel.

These 10 umpires could be called into action during the next edition of the Indian Premier League and could pave the way for the BCCI implementing the DRS in the cash rich league.

The workshop lasted for an entire day, as Burns and Reiffel provided the Indian umpires the intricacies of DRS, ensuring that they know exactly how the technology is used.

However, the BCCI remains uncertain if the technology will be brought into use in the 2018 IPL but they haven't ruled anything out yet.

Fact

An official from BCCI said "Technology is definitely going to play key role in umpiring decisions in future. So there has to be awareness among the umpires regarding DRS. As of now, there hasn't been any decision taken on having DRS this IPL."

The Decision Review System was officially launched in 2009 during a Test between New Zealand and Pakistan.

Despite being accepted by all the boards across the globe and being widely used in ICC events, the BCCI remained unconvinced of the use of the technology.

However, the BCCI used the system for the first time against England in 2016.
