The Penal and Correctional Institutions Department (PCID) has displayed various artworks created by inmates as part of its rehabilitation programme at Darb Al Saai.
These art works have been witnessing huge demand from visitors and some of them have already been sold, like engraved wooden boxes, paintings and other pieces of art. Many visitors appreciated the creativity behind the products.
People also can buy these products through the Ministry of Interior website. Inmates are working on crafts like electricity, carpentry and painting among others.
The Penal and Correctional Institutions Department provides raw material and trainers to train inmates and they can earn money from the activity during the stay at the prison.
Half of the money being collected from the selling of these products is dedicated for the prisoners and their families while the other half goes to the Ministry to procure raw materials for inmates' artistic or vocational activities. These crafts also develop the talent of the inmates in works of art, paintings and woodwork.
By participating at Darb Al Saai and in many other places, the department aims to encourage and rehabilitate inmates to covert them productive individuals in the society and give them full opportunity to enhance their creativity in their respective fields and finding a suitable source of livelihood through the sale of these artworks.
Among other pavilions at Darb Al Saai which attracted a large number of visitors was the pavilion of the General Directorate of Civil Defence.
The pavilion provides awareness lectures to visitors about the use of different fire extinguishers and also the types of fires in homes and schools and other public places. The visitors get the valuable tips on how to deal with various types of fire and the prevention methods and the types of fire extinguisher which are used to extinguish the fire according to its type.
