A 46-year-old man was jailed for six months by a Singapore court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to attempting to lure a 14-year-old Filipino girl into sex in May last year.

On the night of May 29, Ishak Zainal, a Singapore national, met the teenager, who was in the country visiting her father, as she went downstairs in a residential block in the Teck Whye area to throw away some household garbage, Shin Min Daily News reported.

Zainal approached the girl and befriended her by asking for her social-media details. They became Facebook friends on the same day, and started texting each other afterward.

The pair met again in the ground-floor lobby about 45 minutes after their first encounter, according to Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore).

The underage girl then returned home but met her grandmother on the way, who found out about the inappropriate sexually charged text messages being exchanged between the pair.

The girl's father learned of the incident, and texted Zainal on behalf of his daughter in order to lure him out into the open.

Zainal continued to flirt with the girl by text, and asked for sexually explicit photographs and videos of herself so as to ease his "pain." He also teased her for being lecherous and eventually made arrangements to meet the girl at her father's apartment so that he could have sex with her.

At around 1am on May 30, the man was arrested as soon as he stepped out of the elevator on the ninth floor of the building, where the girl was staying.

The defendant told the court he was extremely remorseful for what he had done.
