Afghanistan- OIC extraordinary summit on Jerusalem begins in Turkey


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday hold an extraordinary Summit in Istanbul, Turkey to discuss the repercussions of the recognition by the United States Al-Quds as a capital of Israel, a statement from the organization said.

The Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States will hold an extraordinary meeting on the same morning to discuss the move in a unified and coordinated manner in the face of these developments affecting the occupied city of Al-Quds and its historical, legal and political status.

President Ashraf Ghani has already left Kabul for Turkey to attend an extraordinary meeting of (OIC) leader Istanbul.

The President, at the head of a high-level government delegation, departed for the Turkish city on Tuesday evening, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

It said the Afghan president would express the 's government and people's views and concerns with regard to recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moving the US Embassy to the contested city at the Wednesday's gathering.

The president is accompanied by his Foreign Minister Saluddin Rabbani and other government officials on the visit.

US President Donald Trump on December 6 announced recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, triggering an almost universal diplomatic backlash.

Trump also ordered the US Department of State to shift the US Embassy in Tel Aviv to the contested city of Jerusalem.
