Pakistan- Mardan residents demand construction of park on land of old prison building

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) MARDAN: Residents of Mardan city on Wednesday set up protest camp at college chowk to force the government to construct a family park on land of old prison building.

A large number of local government representatives joined the protest camp and asked the provincial government to announce construction of the park.

They said that the provincial government had announced construction of a family park for the district but the lawyers' community was protesting against the project for their vested interests who wanted to build a judicial complex over the land.

They said that government has already purchased land for the judicial complex near the new prison and funds were already approved for its construction.

Talking to Tribal News Network, Provincial President of Councilor Ittehad Council Sajid Iqbal Mohmand said that it was up to the provincial government if they want to accept their demands or surrender to the lawyers.

'Thousands of residents of the district will take out to the street against the government if our demands are not accepted,' he said. He threatened that lawyers demands were accept then they would seize land of the old judicial complex.
