Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei claimed that the Islamic Revolution of Iran has defeated the United States in the region.
Khamenei made the remarks Nov. 22 during a meeting with paramilitary Basij force commanders and personnel in Tehran, the official website of the Iranian leader reported.
'The youth managed to bring the US to its knees and defeat it in the region,' Khamenei said addressing the Basij members, adding, 'All their efforts and plots to drive revolutionary and Islamic ideology out of this region and to destroy resistance ideology that had spread in the region were reversed.'
He further touched upon the defeat of the "Islamic State" terrorist group (IS aka ISIS/ISIL) in Syria and Iraq, saying the cancerous tumor caused by enemies to defeat the 'resistance movement' was removed from Iraq and Syria.
Iranian officials refer to their regional alliance with Lebanese group Hezbollah and Syrian government against Israel as 'resistance movement,' or "axis of resistance"
Tehran has always expressed support for the Syrian government since it sees President Bashar Assad's regime as its main strategic ally in the region and as a part of the "axis of resistance" against Israel.
