US Navy: US warship collision with Japanese tug


(MENAFN) The US Navy reported a crash between a US warship and a Japanese tug that occurred off central Japan, slight damage was inflicted on the US warship.

While commencing a towing exercise in Sagami Bay, the commercial tug of Japan lost force and wandered off into the USS Benfold, the guided-missile destroyer.

Before confirming that an investigation is to take place, the US Navy assured "no one was injured on either vessel."

The US Navy released a statement explaining that the warship "sustained minimal damage, including scrapes on its side. Benfold remains at sea under her own power. The Japanese commercial tug is being towed by another vessel to a port in Yokosuka."
