Rutte, Trump talk about security situation in Greenland, Arctic
(MENAFN) NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and US President Donald Trump held a phone call on Sunday to discuss security issues in Greenland and the broader Arctic region. Rutte noted that discussions would continue and mentioned plans to meet Trump in Davos later this week.
Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, has drawn US attention due to its strategic location, natural resources, and perceived Russian and Chinese activity. Recently, Trump announced that the US would impose 10% tariffs on imports from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1, increasing to 25% in June, over their opposition to US control of Greenland. European leaders have pledged a coordinated response to the proposed tariffs.
