Afghanistan- Road between Bamyan, northern provinces closed

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Militants have blocked a key road between central Bamyan province and northern parts of the country by blowing up part of a mountain in Shibar district, local officials said on Monday.

Mohammad Azim Farid, administrative chief of Shibar district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the road was blocked at two points in Baghak area after the militants blew up the mountain.

The insurgents from the Tala Wa Barfak district of Baghlan province lurked in the mountain that they blew up before attacking Afghan forces based in Shibar, the official added.

'Reinforcements have arrived to the area and are trying to reopen the road and clear the area of militants,' Farid said.

Meanwhile, the governor's spokesman, Abdur Rahman Ahmadi, said one policeman was killed in the insurgent attack in Baghak area last night. The rebels went into hiding after the attack.

On the other hand, Ahmadi said that two girls in Punjab and Waras districts committed suicide by hanging themselves this week. He said the motive behind the incidents was yet to be known.

A suspect in one of the suicide cases in Panjab district has been arrested and a delegation sent to Waras district to investigate the second incident.
