(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR, 25 September: People hailing from the Khalil tribe on Monday here staged a protest demonstration against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for its failure in curbing the spread of dengue virus.
Residents of Tehkal, Sufaid Dheri and other surrounding villages participated in the protest demonstration. Former federal minister Arbab Alamgir, PMLN leader Arbab Khizar Hayat and a number of political leaders and local elders also turned up at the rally.
The protesters blocked the University road for several hours and chanted slogans against the provincial government. They were of the view that the provincial government did not take timely and effective measures to control the outbreak of dengue fever, as a result, hundreds of people have been infected by the deadly disease.
They added that the number of dengue patients was increasing with every passing day while the KP government was not paying proper attention to the problem.
The protesters demanded of the government to announce Rs1 million compensation for the legal heirs of those died of dengue fever. They also demanded that the provincial government should ensure provision of free medical treatment to patients admitted in government hospitals due to dengue virus.
According to official data, as many as 34 people have died so far in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to dengue.
