BLANCPAIN GT SERIES ENDURANCE CUP: Oman Racing's Ahmad ready for Spa challenge

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Racing's Ahmad al Harthy has expressed his readiness to tackle the gruelling Total 24 Hours of Spa challenge - the fourth round and the most prestigious race of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup campaign – at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on Saturday.

The Muscat-based Ahmad will be joined by his teammates, Jonny Adam, Salih Yoluc and team newcomer Euan Hankey for the 24 Hour race, as the quartet aims for a podium finish to maintain the team's lead in the Pro-Am Championship standings.

The fight in the Pro-Am Cup will probably be as exciting as that for the overall class win. Lamborghini squad Barwell Motorsport has won the two most recent races of the Blancpain GT Series, Silverstone and Circuit Paul Ricard, but thanks to a victory in Monza and solid performances in the next two races, the Oman Racing with TF Sport Aston Martin is a mere eight points ahead of the Barwell Motorsport team.

With 50 points on offer during the Total 24 Hours of Spa – one for pole position, 12 at the six-hour and 12-hour marks and 25 at the finish – Ahmad realises that consistency and reliability is more important than ever, having finished on the podium in each of the three rounds so far.

At the recent official test day at Spa-Francorchamps, which featured over 60 cars, Ahmad and Co came fifth fastest in Pro-Am class in the afternoon session.

'We're all excited for Spa. It's always an amazing race to be part of and an incredible week actually building up to the 24 Hour itself,' said the Aston Martin racer.

'We've had a fantastic season so far. It's good to be leading the Pro-Am Cup championship but we know how challenging the 24 Hours of Spa is and we're taking nothing for granted.

'Preparation is key at Spa as it is twice-round-the-clock race. We're happy with the programme we completed during the test day and we're going into the race determined to do the best we can.'

The free practice, pre-qualifying and final qualifying sessions will be held on Thursday with the fastest qualifiers progressing to super pole on Friday ahead of the race on Saturday.
