Several villages fallen to Taliban in Badakhshan's Tagab district


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Local security officials confirmed a number of villages in Tagah district have been fallen to Taliban militants in northeastern Badakhshan province.

An official of National Directorate of Security (NDS) who wished to go unnamed said that Taliban militants stormed a number of security posts in Kato Bala area of Tagab on Saturday noon.

Around 11 villages were fallen to militants during the fight that continued until 7pm last evening, the source said. Afghan security forces suffered no casualties and there is no information about the militants€™ fatalities, the official added.

Kamil Baig Hussaini, a provincial council member said around 25 villages containing highest population of the district, were overran by militants due to negligence and lack of coordination among security forces.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid a spokesman for Taliban militant claimed that security forces suffered heavy causalities in fight with militants during so called Mansouri operation in Tagab district in the past 24 hours.

He said that 13 security posts including three strategic areas and 15 villages were captured by Taliban in Tagab district. A number of weapons and military equipments also captured from Afghan forces, Mujahid said.
