Dead Sea, March 25 (Petra) -- State Minister for media Affairs, the government's spokesman, Mohammad Al-Momani, on Saturday evening, said there is an Arab consensus on combating terrorism and extremist ideology.

Al-Momani gave his remarks on the third day of the 28th session of the Arab Summit, which discussed terrorism and the threats it poses to the security and stability of the Arab countries.

He pointed out that many Arab countries contribute directly to the fight against terrorism and extremism, stressing that the war on terror is "our war."

The minister underlined the importance of fighting terrorist gangs by preventing cross-border flows and drying up their sources of funding, as well as the intellectual and ideological confrontation of extremism and terrorism.

He said Jordan was able in five years in coordination with brotherly and friendly countries, to reduce the digital media content on social media advocating terrorist ideology by 75 percent, by closing about 400,000 accounts on Twitter alone.

On the importance of the Palestinian issue, Al-Momani noted that it tops the summit's agenda, as the central issue, which includes Jerusalem and the Palestinian people, saying: "The absence of justice for the Palestinian people is a major and fundamental reason for the instability of the region and creates an environment for extremism and terrorism."

He pointed out that the UN envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, will be attending the meeting of Arab foreign ministers to discuss the latest developments in the political negotiations on Syria.

Envoys of the US and Russian Presidents and the French government will also attend the summit's opening session, the minister noted.

Responding to a question on Iranian interference in some Arab affairs, Al-Momani said that there is a pan-Arab consensus on rejecting foreign interference in the Arab countries internal affairs, emphasizing Arab countries' keenness to respect the principles of good-neighborly policy.

On the Syrian crisis, the state minister said Arab countries support Syria's territorial integrity and stability, and the return of refugees to their country, pointing out that it is too early to talk about safe zones.

He also said Arab countries support the legitimacy in Libya and the "Skhirat" agreement, adding that the UN envoy to Libya is welcomed to attend the summit if he wishes to.
