CNN's John Defterios: Society needs to be engaged in sustainability discussion

SHARJAH, 22nd March (WAM)--On the sidelines of the Sixth Edition of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2017), John Defterios, CNNMoney Emerging Markets Editor, has emphasised the importance of linking the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to communication.

He stressed the need to get the discussion on SDGs into the society to take ownership over it.

Moderating the second session at the IGCF 2017, titled "The Public and Private Sectors: Real Partnership towards Sustainable Development", Defteriors emphasised the need to fill the gap between the media organisations and policy makers to make sure that the society comes along for the right.

He added, "This is particularly important in the 21st century after the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the progress that was made there."

Defteriors underlined that the society should be aware of the importance of the environment, general ecology and eliminating poverty as high priority. He further stressed the importance of a partnership between the governments and businesses for achieving these goals.
