H E Hamood Sangour al Zadjali, executive president of Central Bank of Oman, and Abdulrahman Ibrahim al Balushi, chairman of CBFS, Board of Directors & vice president of Central Bank of Oman, were present at the book launching ceremony.

CBFS has made an attempt to provide useful inputs to develop future plans and strategies in banking business in Oman. The book is edited by Dr Ahmed al Ghassani, dean of CBFS, Anis Moosa al Lawati, assistant dean for Academic Affairs and Dr Anand S, director of Postgraduate Studies and Research of CBFS.

In his welcome address, Dr Ghassani said, 'As part of research promotion and knowledge transfer initiatives, CBFS has started to bring out edited book volumes on an annual basis with themes relevant to the banking and financial sector. The book aims at addressing practical issues, trends, challenges and future scenarios in the banking sector in #Oman in the form of chapters.

'The book contains 11 insightful scientific papers under seven main themes. The chapters of this were selected after a thorough double blind review process. The chapters are authored by academicians and practitioners in banking domain. The book is an ideal tool for learning and cn be used to bring relevance, depth and breadth to the critical aspects related to the banking sector in Oman.' He also presented a brief overview of key research initiatives and research enabling activities at CBFS.

Dr Hatemal Shanfari, assistant professor of College of Economics and Political Sciences of Sultan Qaboos University has made presentation on critical review of the book. In his brief critical review presentation, Dr Shanfari said, 'The role of the banking sector in facilitating and enhancing long-term sustainable economic growth is well established globally, but there is a gap in the literature to document such a relationship in the case of Oman. This book offers a significant contribution to bridge the gap and provides the top-down approach in analysing the banking sector in #Oman in seven parts that cover critical topics.

'Its scholarly contribution is a great value addition to policy makers, professional business leaders, researchers and students. Globally, many scholars have concluded that a well-functioning banking sector can play a critical role in improving the allocation of financial resources among real economic sectors and ensure productive investment in profitable projects.'

CBFS has registered for copyright on this book with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The book is published with ISBN and the chapters are indexed by EBSCO. The book is available open access from the CBFS website.
