AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday strongly condemned the Israel's Knesset bill that legalises and grabs Palestinian lands in the West Bank to expand building more illegal settlements.

Minister of State for Media Affairs, Mohammad Momani, said in a statement that Israeli confiscation of Palestinian lands is a violation of the international legitimacy, resolutions of the United Nations and the international law.

Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, stressed that the Israeli government as an occupying force, is demanded to maintain the status quo in the West Bank and not to allow the establishment of settlement units and grab more Palestinian lands.

Such provocative acts, the minister warned, would destroy any hope for the two-state solution and peace in the region, fuel the anger of Muslims and drag the region to more violence and extremism.

He noted that building settlements reflects a mentality that neither accept peace, nor believe in it.

He recalled the UN Security Council resolution No. 2334, adopted late December 2016, saying it clearly indicates the growing International isolation of Israel due to its illegal and provocative settlement activities. Such acts, Momani said, would also undermine peace and violate the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their state on the entire national soil with Jerusalem as its capital.
