GCC eGovernment Executive Committee meets


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Hosted by the sultanate, the 18th meeting of the GCC eGovernment Executive Committee started at Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Wednesday.

Heads of authorities and programmes of eGovernment in the GCC countries and specialists from the General Secretariat of the Council are taking part in the two-day event, stated a press release.

During the meeting, the committee is discussing the General Secretariat report on what has been implemented of the decisions taken at its 17th meeting.

The committee is also discussing the implementation of joint initiatives among the GCC member countries as contained in the GCC Guidelines Strategy in eGovernment, in addition to reviewing the report of Saudi Arabia to hold the fifth session of the GCC eGovernment Award and Conference in 2017.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Information Technology Authority (ITA), said, 'This meeting is a continuation of the meetings of the GCC eGovernment Executive Committee. We will discuss many topics, the most important initiatives agreed by the committee with respect to the eGovernment which had been identified for each member state to carry out, including the GCC joint eGovernment services initiatives to be implemented by the sultanate.

'The sultanate has surpassed the advanced stage of this initiative, which will be reviewed during this meeting as well as discussing new initiatives that will be agreed upon.'

Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman al Shuaibi, director general of Yesser Program of Saudi Arabia, said, 'The connected Gulf project is one of the initiatives presented two years ago and has been activated to provide the data and information between the GCC government systems.
'In addition to that, Bahrain adopted the initiative to link the GCC countries and integrate with the sultanate's initiative in identifying applications and services that will be applied across this linkage.'
