Starcare India streams live surgery and cadaver dissection for doctors in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Top ear surgeons from around the world recently gathered in the new Starcare Hospital, Calicut, India to share their experience on the emerging trends in ear surgeries.

The advance centre for ENT at Starcare Hospital, Calicut headed by pioneering surgeon Prof Ashok Kumar welcomed the international faculty from France, Italy, Australia and other leading centres.

Starcare was the chosen centre for live surgery demonstration and live cadaveric dissection as part of the largest annual conference of ear surgeons in India, ISOCON 2016, which attracted 1200 ENT surgeons not only from India but also from neighbouring countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka and Oman. The delegates of the conference watched the complex surgical procedures performed at Starcare Hospital live sitting in a conference hall several Kilometers away.

Starcare Hospital, Muscat used the opportunity of this mega scientific event to educate ENT doctors in Oman who could not attend the conference in India. In a first-of-kind effort, the workshop was streamed live to the training hall of Starcare Hospital, Muscat where several ENT surgeons gathered to watch as world's leading surgeons operated in India. Dr K Sridhar, senior consultant ENT surgeon, Starcare Hospital, Muscat, said that use of technology has made continuous medical education much easier than in the past. Doctors need to continuously update their knowledge and skills to remain experts in the field and opportunities such this are much welcome in that aspect.

Twenty complex ear surgeries like stapedectomy, cochlear implant and trigeminal neuralgia surgery were some of the procedures demonstrated. The two-day work shop ended with a cadaveric dissection to refresh the anatomy knowledge of surgeons.
