Euro 2016: France Cooperates with Morocco to Prevent Terrorist Attacks

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) With only a few days until its start, the 2016 European Cup of Nationsto be held in Francehas been surrounded by many fears and apprehensions, especially after the tragic terrorist attacks in France and Belgium this year.

According to Al Massae newspaper, the looming threat of terrorism has prompted France to strengthen its security cooperation with Morocco in order to to ensure the safety and security of the event and to avoid any possible attacks.

Following several security reports that have raised alarms about serious terrorist threats against the European Cup of Nations, especially in the opening and final matches of the competition, France has recently intensified its intelligence cooperation and consultation with Moroccan security services.

One such report was issued by the German Federal Bureau of Investigation: the German report alerts France against attacks that could target weakly-secured locations, and cause many casualties on the sidelines of the fifteenth edition of the European Football Championship.

The challenge of terrorism has led French authorities to also cooperate with Tunisian and Mauritanian security services, in addition to their American counterparts. Yet, cooperation with Morocco remains crucial in light of the many issues that both countries have recently had to solve together.

A week after the Paris attacks in November, French president Francois Hollande expressed, during his reception of King Mohamed VI in Paris, his gratitude for Morocco for its 'efficient help.'

Accordingly, the Moroccan security and intelligence services will accompany their French allies in preventive measures before and after the competition.

The Moroccan security services played an important role in the investigation that followed the attacks in Paris last November. The information provided by Morocco even helped to identify and apprehend several terrorists involved.
