Arab League Council to hold emergency meeting at Qatar's request on Wednesday to discuss situation in Aleppo

Cairo: The General Secretariat of the Arab League has decided holding of an emergency meeting of Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates on Wednesday at the request of the State of Qatar to discuss the dangerous escalation of the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

The Arab League in a memorandum today announced that the agreement on holding the meeting was decided after consultations and contacts made by the General Secretariat and the Kingdom of Bahrain "the current president of the Arab League Council " with Member States and with the approval of two states to hold the meeting which were Saudi Arabia and Bahrain as it stipulated in the rules of procedure of the Arab League in such cases.

The State of Qatar has requested in a note sent to the General Secretariat of the Arab League earlier in the day the holding of this emergency meeting to discuss the deteriorating situation in Aleppo which caused killing and wounding of hundreds of civilians as a result of the continuous shelling by Syrian regime forces on the city.
