Oman wins AFC U14 regional festival title

Oman clinched the top position at the AFC U14 Regional Festival of football for the West Zone in Jeddah Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Ten nations took part in the five-day festival that was hosted by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) under the auspices of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Hosts Saudi Arabia came second while Iraq finished third.

The other participating nations were Bahrain Jordan Kuwait Lebanon Palestine Qatar and UAE.

The festival focused on development and the spirit of the game rather than success at the competition.

No points table was maintained with all teams receiving medals and certificates for participation. After the festival in Saudi Arabia similar events are planned in Tajikistan Brunei and China.

Oman was pooled along with Palestine Bahrain Jordan and UAE. It beat Palestine 5-2 drew with Bahrain 1-1 held Jordan 1-1 and beat UAE 4-0 to top the group with eight points and finish at the top.
