Workshop festival to give women's football in Oman a big boost

Women's football in Oman is set to receive a boost with the Oman Football Association (OFA) hosting a five-day workshop that began on Saturday.

The workshop is part of a series of efforts taken by the OFA recently to develop women's football in the sultanate.

The five-day workshop will conclude with a day-long festival on December 24 according to Haroon Amur al Bartamani one of the coaches nominated by the OFA to conduct the workshop.

Besides Bartamani who is a FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) goalkeeping instructor the workshop will be conducted by Khalid al Lahori a certified A level instructor and former national team coach and Christie Anna Lee an American based in Muscat. A total of 30 sports teachers from the Ministry of Education five students from GUtech and other invitees will be part of the workshop.

The five GUtech students were recently part of the Oman women's futsal team at the Arab University futsal competition that concluded in Jordan last month.

The workshop will include both theoretical and practical lessons and Rafee'a al Saqri has been named the coordinator of the programme. All the participants will receive a certificate from the OFA at the conclusion of the course.

Bartamani honoured

Bartamani was recently honoured by the Swedenbased Global Council of Sport Science (GCSS). He has been nominated by the GCSS to be part of its team of instructors.

The company has a branch in Saudi Arabia and works to create and organise training camps sport courses and scientific conferences.
