Oman Trade Balance Registers Surplus in July 2015


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The Sultanate of Oman's trade balance during the first 7-months of 2015 registered a surplus of RO1,581.3 million, despite the decline in the merchandise exports by 31.7%.
The National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) said in its bulletin of November 2015 that the merchandise exports, which includes oil and gas, non-oil exports and re-export registered a decline by 40%, 7.1% and 22.9% respectively, reported Oman news agency (ONA).
The Sultanate's trade balance during the first 7-month of 2014 registered a surplus of RO5,272.8 million.
According to NCSI data, foreign trade revenues declined to RO8.66 billion from RO11.80 billion recorded last year.
Merchandise imports, on the other hand, posted a marginal decrease of 0.7% during the period, with figures hitting RO6.48 billion as against RO6.53 billion a year ago. However, imports rose 33% in terms of quantity which touched 15.54 million ton during the period.
Oil and gas exports suffered a 40% downfall at RO4.77 billion compared to RO 7.96 billion achieved in the January-July period in the prior year.
Crude oil fell 41.4% to RO4.08 billion from RO6.96 billion, while refined oil declined 39% to RO 99.6 million as against RO163.2 million a year ago.
