Kuwait- Sultanate of Oman marks 45th National Day Wednesday

MUSCAT Nov 17 (KUNA) -- The Sultanate of Oman will celebrate Wednesday the 45th National Day which also signals the start of the Omani modern renaissance and its opening up to strong relations with neighbors and other world countries.
Oman marks National Day every year on November 18 as a celebration of independence from the Portuguese in 1650. National Day coincides with Sultan Qaboos bin Said's birthday which occurs November 19 to add additional significance to the day.
Over the past 45 years the country is progressing in all domains to become a living example of the wise policies and moderation under the rule of Sultan Qaboos.
Since ascending to the throne on July 23rd 1970 Sultan Qaboos has been leading the country's march for modernization and renaissance in various domains.
With far-sighted vision and human element-based policies the Omani government has managed to harness the skills of Omani people to be partners in state building development and prominence efforts.
Along with the human resources revamp enormous efforts were exerted to build various state institutions starting from the legislative and advisory bodies; namely the Council of State and the Consultative Assembly which were given remarkable legislative and oversight powers.
The Omani government has given a special attention to the education sector and its development to produce highly-qualified national cadres to implement the development plans and meet the labor market needs.
Curricula have also been upgraded and teachers have been trained on the latest approached in teaching and provided with the most sophisticated educational tools.
The number of students in government schools hit 523818 students 266353 males and 257465 females in 2013/2014 and the number of government schools is estimated at 1045 nationwide while the number of teachers and administrative staff reached 54610 and 11480 respectively. Schools supervising staff is about 2379 members.
As for the health sector the Sultanate topped the world countries in the optimal use of healthcare resources thanks to its eagerness to provide citizens with perfect medical services.
The social care also features high on the government's sustainable development plans in the past years and the Sultanate recorded outstanding achievements in all social sectors.
Sultan Qaboos's main concern was to give Omani people a better life therefor he paid great attention to develop different social fields.
The government has made inroads in executing its ambitious plans to diversify national economy and to turn the Sultanate of Oman into a hub for logistic services to the world trade movement.
As for foreign policy the Sultanate has adopted a moderate foreign policy based on good neighborliness mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs of other countries.
Oman has been boost cooperation with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries Arab countries and the international community to maintain world security and stability and to find peaceful solutions to regional and international conflicts.(end) ahr.ibi
