Sultan Qaboos addresses opening session of Oman Council's 6th term


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Sultan Qaboos on Sunday addressed inauguration of the sixth term of the legislative Oman Council, which comprises the Shura Council and the State Council, it was officially announced.
In his statement, Sultan Qaboos called on the Omanis to cooperate closely to pursue "the march of achievements," noting that the assembly has played a noticeable and tangible role "contributing to the full-scale development march." The inaugural session was attended by ministers, top state advisers, chiefs of the armed forces, the police, members of the two bodies and diplomats.
The Oman Council comprises 84 members of the Shura Council and 85 of the State Council. It is tasked of mapping out strategies for finding solutions to economic and social issues. It provides recommendations on how to encourage investments and boost human resources' skills.
The board had been formed according to a decree by the Sultan in 1997, with aim of seeking broader consultation on the national comprehensive development.
