Kuwait participates in Security Council reform meeting

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Permanent Delegate to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi announced his participation in a meeting on developing the UN Security Council, held in Rome, Italy, on 21-22 May.

The meeting discusses reforms needed to expand the council's membership and "create democracy and transparency in its decisions and measures," Al-Otaibi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador noted that Kuwait is the coordinator of the Arab Group on Security Council reform, adding that the group is demanding a permanent seat for Arabs in the council, especially that Arab countries represent 11 percent of the total number of member-states.

Dispute is still continuing between member-states of the Security Council on increasing the number of permanent seats and limiting the use of the veto power.
